Akihabara is where anime fans go to shop, eat and soak it all in. It’s also lined with pachinko halls full of machines based on the shows you love. Here’s what’s there, what we’ve been able to verify (and what we haven’t), and how to fit a pachinko hour into an otaku day.
The halls near Akihabara Station
| Hall | Address | Hours | What’s documented | PachiPass status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Island Akihabara | 1F & B1F, Don Quijote Bldg, 4-4-3 Sotokanda | 10:00–22:40 (official) | Official site publishes a daily floor map and machine list. Described online as helpful to English speakers, not confirmed | Reported |
| GAIA – Cyber Pachinko Akihabara Showa-dori-guchi | 4-7 Kanda Hirakawacho | 10:00–23:00 (GAIA) | 611 machines (303 pachinko, 308 pachislot) per GAIA. Multilingual signage claimed by one guide, not confirmed | Reported |
| Big Apple Akihabara | Tomorrow Bldg 1F–4F, 1-16-1 Sotokanda | 10:00–22:40 (P-World) | 185 pachinko + 675 pachislot (P-World). An English-language tour visits it (Evendo). Reviews on English help are mixed | Reported (medium) |
| ESPACE Nittaku Akihabara Ekimae | 1-15-6 Sotokanda (P-World) | TODO | Visitor reviews disagree on English | Reported (weak) |
Status levels: verified → verified-limited → reported → weak → location-only. See each hall page for sources.
Big Apple is heavy on pachislot (675 of 860 machines, per P-World). GAIA’s Showa-dori hall is split about evenly. If you know whether you want pachinko or pachislot, that helps you choose.
Finding anime machines
Most of today’s anime titles are smart slots (L-prefix) or smart pachinko (e-prefix) (smart machines explained). To find your franchise:
- Check the hall’s online machine list (Japanese). Island Akihabara publishes one on its official site (Island). Search for the Japanese title. Our machine database gives the Japanese name of each machine (for example L Tokyo Ghoul, Smart Slot Lycoris Recoil).
- Walk the aisles. Machine names are printed on the top panel.
- Ask staff: “[Title] wa arimasu ka?” (Do you have [title]?).
Line-ups change constantly. A machine being popular nationwide doesn’t mean a particular hall has it. More in anime pachinko and pachislot machines.
An otaku day in Akihabara (with one pachinko hour)
PachiPass suggestion, not a rule:
| Time | Plan | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Late morning | Shops for anime goods, figures and capsule toys | GO TOKYO highlights these, plus themed cafes (GO TOKYO) |
| Lunch | A themed cafe | Same source |
| Afternoon | Retro games and arcades | Many fans’ favourite part of Akihabara. TODO: add sourced examples |
| Early evening | One hour of pachinko at a 1-yen or 5-yen section, with a fixed budget | Halls open until 22:40–23:00 per the sources above |
| Evening | Prize counter → snacks as souvenirs → dinner | Prizes explained |
GO TOKYO also mentions the AKB48 Theatre, and cosplayers on weekends (GO TOKYO).
Before you go
- Bring yen banknotes and your passport (age 18+).
- Read first visit, step by step and save pachinko Japanese to your phone.
- Photography is usually restricted. NAVITIME’s guide to MARUHAN Shinjuku says photos and videos are basically not allowed inside (NAVITIME). Ask staff before you film your favourite anime machine.
Quick answers
Are there pachinko parlours in Akihabara?
Yes, several near the station, including Island Akihabara (in the Don Quijote building), GAIA's Cyber Pachinko Akihabara Showa-dori-guchi, Big Apple Akihabara and ESPACE Nittaku Akihabara Ekimae.
Which Akihabara pachinko parlour has English?
We haven't been able to confirm official English support at any Akihabara hall yet. Some visitor reviews mention English help at Big Apple and ESPACE Nittaku, but others say there was none. For guaranteed English help in Tokyo, MARUHAN Shinjuku is the documented option.
Can I play anime machines in Akihabara?
Halls in Akihabara, like halls everywhere in Japan, carry many anime-licensed machines. Line-ups change constantly and each hall chooses its own, so check the hall's machine list (in Japanese) or just walk the aisles.
