Neon Genesis Evangelion has been a pachinko fixture for more than twenty years, and in October 2026 it’s still one of the most installed franchises in Japan’s halls.

Where it started

The first machine, CR Neon Genesis Evangelion (CR新世紀エヴァンゲリオン), was made by Bisty and released by Fields in December 2004. A pachislot version followed in September 2005, and a long run of sequels has followed ever since (ja.wikipedia, secondary source). For the wider story of anime in parlours, see pachinko on screen.

Evangelion machines you may see in 2026

All of these are pachinko machines by Bisty, according to P-World’s machine database. The letter at the start of a name tells you the type: P is a conventional machine with loose balls, and e is a smart pachinko machine with sealed balls (explainer, Japanese).

How popular is it? When we checked P-World’s nationwide pachinko installation ranking on 4 October 2026, several Evangelion machines were on it, including Mirai e no Hōkō (P-World). We don’t reproduce third-party rank numbers. Two more data points:

  • Shin Evangelion Type Rei was the second best-selling new pachinko machine of 2023, at about 48,000 units (P version only), according to sales data presented by Pachinko Village (Greenbelt via P-World).
  • In the pachinko industry advertising council’s fan vote for 2025, Hajimari no Kioku came second in the pachinko category (Yugi Tsushin via P-World).

Playing one as a visitor

  • Smart or conventional? On the e machine you won’t touch loose balls; your ball count is electronic. On the P machines you rent balls into a tray as usual. See smart slot and smart pachinko explained.
  • Read the panel first. Every machine shows its jackpot odds on or above the cabinet. Our machine types guide explains what those numbers mean.
  • Shoot right when told. Many modern machines tell you to switch to 右打ち (shoot right) during a bonus. See how to play pachinko.
  • Cost. In a 1-yen corner, if the hall has one, ¥1,000 rents four times as many balls as at 4-yen. See 1-yen vs 4-yen pachinko.

Finding an Evangelion machine

Search for エヴァ or エヴァンゲリオン on a hall’s website or a Japanese portal. Many halls publish their machine list. Our Osaka and Tokyo pages list halls with documented visitor help; ask staff by showing the Japanese name on your phone. Halls choose their own line-ups, so national popularity doesn’t guarantee a particular hall has one.
